It will tell you on the stick, either "check hot" or "check cold", running or not.

It is important to check the fluid levels while owning a car. To check the transmission fluid, make sure the car is warm, look under the hood for a yellow or red cap, sometimes labeled with Transmission, pull it out, wipe it off and dip it back into the tube, and pull it out and see the level of the fluid on the stick.

You refill transmission fluid through the transmission dipstick tube. Remove the dipstick and, using a funnel, pour fluid into tube slowly in small amounts and check level each time. DO NOT OVERFILL!!! Good luck.
The pink fluid is most likely transmission fluid.
Ford designated fluid. It's written on the bottles. I think Mobil 1 makes it... or Pennzoil. Go to Wally*World (Wal*Mart) and check out the shelves in "Automotive."

According to the 2003 Ford Focus Owner Guide : ( Motorcraft MERCON automatic transmission fluid is used as the power steering fluid )
you have to raise the vehicle and remove the plug from the transmission, then fill it with a pumping device.
