It is not a secret, underground society in most cases, as Communists are normally rash and bold and quickly coupGovernments to obtain the power they desire. For example: China. However, in the United States, it is looked down upon to be part of the Communist Party. In fact, there isn't a registered political party that is communist. There are Socialists. This is somewhat of an underground, or secret as you put it, society. Most people who share these beliefs of Socialism will not admit to being part of it.
