I am on antibiotics for my abscess and read that it can be life threatening if you're not on treatment is that true?

I was a dental assistant for 2 years, and I am now working to get into dental school. I do have a BS in Biology already though. Yes it is true that abscesses may become life threatening if they are any where near the sinus area and have swelling. I am assuming this is a dental abscess. The risk is that the infection may pass the blood brain barrier or may poison the blood, causing sepsis. It is always best to take all of your prescribed antibiotics and follow the instructions of your physician. Dental abscesses require root canals because even if the pain and swelling subside from the antibiotics, it is not gone for good. It will return, guaranteed. Its best to either have the root canal or have the tooth extracted. Once a tooth is abscessed, there's no turning back. Hope this helps.
