You can go to Deviantart to find brushes.

From what I can make of it, the Gimp Turtorials do no download with the GIMP program, but instead they prompt you to visit the website. In this tutorial it will teach you how to use the product.

Installing gimp is easy in Linux, you just run the install app called Synaptic. Search for gimp, and it will find it and install it. Note, most Linux systems come with Gimp now.

The brushes should already come with the GIMP once downloaded. You don't have to download things separate.

you can do a lot of things in gimp including the fact that gimp is free just type in gimp and download it from the website then look up tutorials on youtube.
GIMP stands for GNU Image Manipulation program, a good source of information is http://www.gimp.org/ as this is the official website. http://www.snapfiles.com/get/gimp.html is also a good option because it gives an official explanation from the GIMP team and the option to download.
