Check your coolant temperature switch first to make sure it is working. Thermostat should be behind the flywheel on the front of the block in the water pump. You have to remove the flywheel to get to it.
If it is behind the engine it could possibly be the flywheel scraping on the transmission dust cover behind the oil pan or a loose starter
The front main is behind the crank pulley. The rear main is behind the flexplate/flywheel. The trans has to be removed to access this one.

I'm trying to put a 92 5 speed flywheel behind a 16 valve engine and it won't line up. So apparently the cranks and flywheels changed in 94.
