First, if you are going hypoglycemic at night, you are probably taking too much slow acting insulin at bed time. I use Type N. Try to slowly cut down the amount of insulin in those injections. I also eat a piece of toast and balance it with fast insulin if necessary at bedtime and in the morning.

Ten years ago they started me with 26 units twice a day. Way too much! I kept going hypoglycemic. I am now down to 12 units of Type N twice a day and 4 to 6 units of fast acting with each meal. Life is better and I can be more active. At 69 I try to bike 2 to 3 miles a day.

Second , Test! I test my blood sugar at least five times a day. My A1C is 5.9 - I use a Palm Pilot to track my blood sugar, carbs, insulin and exercise.

Third, Januvia appears to be only for well controlled type 2 diabetics. Sorry.

Fourth, with the ultra thin injection needles, and testing supplies, testing and injecting needn't be painful.

Good luck!
