yes you should be able to do it as long as the bolts line up witch they should the only thing that makes it a vortec is the chambers in the heads plus

If you are sure that it did not freeze and crack the block, Then the intake manifold gasket is leaking. That is a common problem with the vortec Chevy engines. You need to replace the gasket with a factory Chevy gasket from the dealer.

The cylinder heads are diffrent. Intake from 1998 truck will not bolt up to 1990 heads.

No. Not without switching the cylinder heads. I think it was 89, Chevy came out with the 1st generation Vortec heads, which require a different intake.
