I have a 1980 GS850 and the petcock only has one marking on it Prime at 12oclock can someone tell me where the ON position is No lever to turn I need a screw driver to change as well?

The slot where you insert the screwdriver must be parallel to the ground that is the on position. it has only two settings on and prime and as long as it's parallel to the ground it's in the on position.
