A 5 year old Boston Terrier is in the prime for breeding - she's reached her full size and muscle tone. An old Boston Terrier would be 12 years or older.

No, 5 is not too old as long as the vet thinks her health is ok. I think she is too old to breed more then once as it takes a lot out of them. She is middle aged after all.

Boston Massachusetts. It was a mix beween an English Bulldog and a Now extinct white Terrier. They were called Bull Terriers but the AKC made them change the name as there already were dogs called Bull Terriers so they changed the name to Boston Terrier.

Are Boston Terriers smart?

Yes they are WONDERFUL pets. I have one of my own. When they are puppies they are spazmotic but when they turn atleast 2 they learn how to act. They are always ready to play! When they are puppies They LOVE to chew on fire wood, shoes, and fingers. When they chew on fingers (only as a puppy) that is normal for all dogs. They chew fingers because they want to chew something. When you first have your Boston terrier, You must keep them in a crate while they sleep.

Is it normal for a Boston terrier to have one puppy?

The number of pups will vary regardless -- but PLEASE do NOT cross-breed these dogs! Breeding is a serious venture and purebred lines should be respected for the best interest of the dogs and the breed. Poor breeding results in weaker dogs with more medical problems, and mutt pups are denied official recognition by many organizations and venues. In short, it isn't fair to the dogs in question, nor their respective bloodlines.

What are the two dogs make Boston terriers?

History on the Boston Terrier. Bred down in size from pit-fighting dogs of the bull and terrier types, the Boston Terrier originally weighed up to 44 pounds (20 kg.) (Olde Boston Bulldogge). It is difficult to believe that these stylish, little dogs were once tough pit-fighters. In fact, their weight classifications were once divided as lightweight, middle and heavyweight. Originating in the city of Boston, Massachusetts, the Boston Terrier is one of the few breeds that was developed in the USA. The original Boston Terriers were a cross between the English Bulldog and now extinct English White Terrier. Around 1865, the coachmen employed by the wealthy people of Boston began to interbreed some of the dogs owned by their employers. One of these crosses, between an English White Terrier and an English Bulldog resulted in a dog named Hooper's Judge. Judge weighed over 30 pounds (13.5 kg.). He was bred down in size with a smaller female and one of those male pups was bred to yet a smaller female. Their offspring interbred with one or more French Bulldogs, providing the foundation for the Boston Terrier. By 1889 the breed had become sufficiently popular in Boston that fanciers formed the American Bull Terrier Club, but this proposed name was not well liked by Bull Terrier lovers. Nor did they like the breeds nickname, "roundheads". Shortly after, the breed was named the Boston Terrier after its birthplace. The breed was recognized by the AKC in 1893. It was first shown in Boston in 1870. In the early years the color and markings were not very important but by the 1900's the breeds distinctive markings and color were written into the standard. Terrier only in name, the Boston Terrier has mellowed from the pit fighting dogs of the past. --Dog breed info center--

A mother dog would never forget her first puppies?

I belive a mother dog would never forget her first litter because it probably made her feel special and a very good mom. If that really happens then that would be so sweet. My dog Sunshine, had 7 puppies in her first litter October 19, 2011. They are Jack Russel Terrier Shih Tzus. Sunshine is a Jack Russel Terrier and their dad Pappy or something. He lives up my street. He is the dad. The puppies' names are, Snowy (Suger), Maxyne, Spike, Sparky (Oscar), Bengal (Sparky), Otis, and Rose (Fritz)
