I have a class B cdl. I took the air brakes test and passed but I have no endorsements for it on my cdl license in nys. Is it suppossed to be on my license?

There is no actual air brake endorsement. If you don't take or don't pass the air brakes portion of the test, you get a restriction (L) on your licence prohibiting you from operating commercial vehicles with air brakes. However, the only endorsements which will appear on your licence are the following:
- H - Hazardous Materials
- K - Tanker
- X - Combination of Hazardous Material and Tanker
- T - Double Trailers (you'll only see this on a Class A licence)
- M - Motorcycle
Some states may opt to show Hazmat and Tanker separately, rather than to use the X endorsement. Other than that, it's universal throughout every state and territory of the USA, as the CDL programme is maintained at the federal level, and not at the state level the way non-CDL licences are.

If the vehicle does not require a CDL, then no endorsement for air brakes is needed - air brake endorsements do not exist on US licenses; only the aforementioned restriction for CDL holders.
