I've run across that a few times, usually less soda than baking powder. Shouldn't be a problem.

What flour makes muffins rise the most?

I haven't tried it but I read if you increase the baking soda. Example if recipe calls for 1 tsp of baking soda, add 2 tsps and they will rise nice and high. It was on a review of a muffin recipe. [Edit; JunioMuffinMan] Careful! If you do that it could affect the taste! try baking powder if the recipe calls for baking soda. I think that instead of putting some baking soda you could put baking powder but also do more of the baking powder than you would do of the baking soda. this should help, but you should experiment around a bit and also try putting double the baking soda and whatever works best you should do

What is the microbiological hazard in baking powder?

In a strictly technical sense, baking powder can be described as a microbiological hazard because it can cause eye irritation if put in the eyes, skin irritation if continually rubbed into the skin and indigestion if eaten by the spoonful. Sensible people do not do such irrational things.

When baking is there something you can substitue for baking soda?

No, if you use baking powder to replace the baking soda it will alter the dish you are cooking. In cookies, baking soda makes for crispier cookies, and baking powder makes softer cookies. But, no they aren't interchangeable.

Can you learn to understand magpie calls?

In a sense, yes. Birds do not have language in the sense we have, but different calls have different meanings. Magpies have alarm calls (the repeated series of 'tsche' staccato calls you are probably most familiar with) and various quieter noises they use to tell each other where they are.

How do you repair a bitter tasting cake rather than throwing it?

There's several reasons the cake could come out bitter, from using old flour, rancid fat, or too much baking powder. If you want to somehow counter the bitterness and still end up with a cake you're chances are really slim.If it's from too much baking powder, you might be able to recycle it into another recipe. Cooks sometimes take leftover cake, crumble it up into a fine powder and reuse it in crusts, tortes and cookies. You might (again, might) be able to counter the bitterness in those cases by fiddling with the amounts of other ingredients like sugar. A quick search around google might prove helpful, and you're not losing anything by experimenting. I'd start by mixing small amounts of the crumbs with other flavors and tasting it to get some sense of direction. Good luck!
