This is a tough one. A number of researchers are trying to find out how depression and alcoholisminteract with each other. The trick is these two conditions aren't probably separable. You can break down both alcoholism and depression into much smaller level such as cellular level or even genes - and they may or may not share a common underlying deficit in your brain.
