Low oil pressure in a situation like that is usually an indication of excessive engine wear. Once the main and rod bearings start to wear, the clearance between the bearing and the crankshaft gets to be too great to maintain pressure after the oil gets hot. You can get more miles from the engine by changing to a higher viscosity oil. Just go to a higher number on the oil can. If you've been using 5 W 15 oil, change to 10 W 30. If you've been using 10 W 30, go to 15 W 40. If you're already using a heavier oil, go to an oil additive that thickens the oil, like STP or any of the other oil thickeners. The only other choice is to rebuild the engine.
A radiator cap can not only be hot, but it is holding in pressure. When the cap comes off under pressure, hot antifreeze will spray out, possibly causing injury.
well a couple things could be wrong depending on what year. if it is a hydraulic lifter then the oil pressure might not be high enough for the oil to reach the lifter causing a knock. another problem could be that your rod and main bearings could be worn out causing a knock and low oil pressure.
Yes, if abused or not maintained. ==================================================== It can sieze in a few seconds ( if you are driving on the highway and your red oil pressure light comes on , by the time you pull over , stop , and shut the engine off )
whoa...OIL pressure or High temp causes the RED engine light to illuminate... Don't keep driving it until you know you've got oil pressure, and it's not overheating...! :)
Yes! It comes with, and has to have, a vented fuel cap; otherwise the tank will pressure up and fill cylinders full of fuel, causing serious engine problems.
It depends on the indicator. Check engine means the engine computer has detected a malfunction. The oil can is an oil pressure problem, a battery is a charging problem, etc
engine stalls sometimes driving
If you problem is that the gauge shows oil pressure with the engine off, you have a gauge or sending unit failure.
Depends on the code. Get it checked.
Transmission jumping hard is the malfunction causing check engine light to come on,most likely its the tcc solonoid causing this or a possibility of causing this.
Check oil level Could be a bad sending unit Install a mechanical gauge to accurately check oil pressure Could be due to excessive engine wear (bearings)
When the engine light comes on and the car shakes at the same time, it could be the spark plugs or ignition coils are faulty. Misfiring is causing the car to shake.
