the best foundation for you is really based on your skin type. liquid foundations can be a great starting point, because they come in a wide variety to suite many different skin types, from oily acne prone, to dry textured skin. it can also give you the best complete coverage, especially if you have red cheeks. try also getting your hands on some green concealer that you would lightly apply first to the reddest parts of your face, followed by your foundation regime. it will amplify the coverage, by cancelling out the reddish undertones. also mousse foundations are good for older folks because it's a lighter formula, that doesnt travel into creases as much.
personally, i also have very pale skin, and loreal brand has some of the palest shades on the market. their liquid trumatch formula is still one of my favorites, followed by their line of mineral foundations that cover -extremely- well for being a powder, and reduce my oily complexion from "shining through". ;)
there are many websites that sell a white foundation pigment that you can add to any formula to make it a shade or two lighter, if your really parrafin pale.
