The first thing to do when replacing a cigarette lighter on a 1995 Lexus ES300 is to remove the fuse for this from the fuse box and disconnect the battery. Then remove the clip on the back of the lighter and slide the metal part out the front. Insert the new metal liner and connect the rear clip. Place the fuse back in the fuse box and reconnect the battery.
It at the bottom under the dashboard, where you rest your left foot. open that little thing.
Behind the coin holder on the left side of steering wheel.
You can find the fuse in the left hand driver kick panel. You will find an access panel that you remove to find the interior fuses. The panel is well marked and the cigarette lighter fuse is a 15 amp fuse.
Did you check the fuse? Also, if you have kids, sometimes "things" get put in there, like coins which will cause the fuse to blow. HTH.
Buy an Lexus RX300, I have had it since 2000 with no problems unlike the 1998 Intrepid that I replaced. Open drivers door. On the side of dash there is a pannel with a handle in it. pull that off an there is the fuses. look on back of cover you pulled off to see what 1 it is.
If the lighter doesn't get red-hot, go to an auto parts store and buy a new one. They are cheap. The units burn out after a few years.
the interior fuse box is on the driver side kick panel [driver's left foot area] starting from the top left fuse you have a row of 5 fuses. next row below that, is a row of 6 fuses. THE CIGARETTE LIGHTER is number 5 [counting from the left ] fuse on the second row 15 amp
it has a chain hence dosent need replacing.
Check a wiring diagram, they probably are different circuits but may share a common ground (ground is term used when connected to negative battery terminal).
Look behind the change compartment (that's the little door just above your left knee). Pop it out one side at a time, then refer to the diagram on the back of said door. If the fuse is not the issue, it's a very good chance that your lighter is plain old broken. I had the same problem with the cigarette lighter (powering a cell phone adaptor) but it was intermittent. I found out it wasn't not the fuse but the center mount post (the positive terminal) of the cigarette lighter itself was loosened I had just to be tightened. The tough part is accessing the lighter itself. I ended prying it out from the top, giving just enough access to get to the bolt underneath with a tiny pair of pliers.
