You must have a leak somewhere. If you are on a well check the pressure tank, make sure there is adequate air pressure. ( check at nipple on top, should be in excess of 25 psi) Check the pipe to well. Listen carefully at the well while pump is running. If there is a leak in the down pipe or lower check valve you will hear water hissing. If none of these ideas work, post again and be more specific about your system.
Because there is a leak in the pipe of the water main.
If the water is shutting off and the hiss occurs and you cannot see any water discharge from the head, tap housing or visable pipes then it could be the sign of a small leak possibley behind the wall. One way to do a check is to place a metal bar or similar against the exposed pipe work and place a ear to it. If there is a leak then you'll hear the leak. Turn off the main and again listen. If the sould of hissing stops you most certainly have a problem. Its advisable to check feeds in the bathroom area when you can before you start thinking about knocking out the walls
Repair the pipe of fixture to stop your leak.
If this pipe you are listening to is your Pitless Adapter, you probably have a leak either in the droppipe that the pump hangs from or the Pitless unit itself.
You could be hearing the water running threw the drain pipe and might not have a leak or if you think it is a leak then it could be leaking and following the pipe down threw the pipe holes but at sometime it will show where it is leaking. Many times if the piping used is non ferrous you can hear the water flowing THROUGH the piping and it can sound like a drip. To find a possible leak you should fill the tub and basin and allow them to drain at the same time as this will normally get the full volume needed to find any defects in the drainage system
Repairing the section of pipe that is leaking will stop a leak on a hot water line.
no, a bad freeze plug will leak antifreeze. i would guess the hissing noise *might* be a exhaust manifold gasket leak or a exhaust pipe that is loose or leaking. the easiest way to locate a leak like this (hissing) is by using a length of rubber hose 3-4 feet long and *carefully* while the engine is running holding one end to your ear move the other end around the engine or suspected areas until you hear the hissing noise thru the hose clearly. then you've located the leak. do not use a metal brake line to do this...you might hit a moving part and get skewered or touch a sparkplug wire and become aware of what a bug feels when it hits a zapper :) good luck.
I would first check to ensure the pump is below the water level in the well. These pumps will pump air. If the pump (or foot valve) is below the water level, then I would check my pressure tank to make sure that it is not full of air.
Yes, eventually a pin hole in pipe will cause a leak.
The homophone for "leak" is "leek." A leek is a type of vegetable related to the onion and garlic.
There's a leak in the pipe.
