It has nothing to do with corpses that's for sure! Corps is a french word, from the Latin: corpus meaning body/formation/ large group. Esprit de corps = the spirit of the corp, comeraderie, morale. Corps de Ballet = the ballet chorus. A Corpsman, pronounced 'coreman' is, in this case, an enlisted man (stretcher bearer/first-aider/medic) of the rank of private in the US Army Medical Corps.
