While non-believers in the Roman Empire corrupted Christianity, some branches identified as Christian did not follow the Scriptural truths about Christ.. In using Jesus name, many have become deceived to think that they were Christian. Jesus did not teach following man, but to follow the truth about Him found in the Scriptures. There was no invention of Christianity. While some have corrupted the truth about why Christ came, He fulfilled the Jewish Scriptures as their Messiah and as the Savior from sins penalty, of all who would trust in Him.

Jesus was a descendant of King David, and as such, it was prophesied in the Old Testament that He would be the Messiah (Christ). As a Jew, the Scriptures tell us of Christ: "He came unto his own, and his own received him not. But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name." John 1:11,12. To be a Christian means to be a Christ follower, a disciple. The early believers in Christ were designated as being part of the "Way." Jesus had said to His disciples: "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." John 14:6. By the time the church at Antioch of Syria was established, the Scripture says, "And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch." Acts 11:26. Christ is the prophesied Messiah, the anointed one, who came to save His people. He did this by fulfilling the Old Testament sacrifice for sins, as the perfect offering for us, when He died on the Cross. In Hebrews 10:4, we are shown: "For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins." They were a mere covering for sin, until the perfect Sacrifice was made by Christ. Speaking of the second Covenant or New Testament, where Jesus went willingly to the Cross to die for our sins, Hebrews 10:10 states: "By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all." The final sacrifice was made. Yet, He rose from the grave victorious over sin, defeating the grave. So the Old Testament was fulfilled, and the New Testament, or Covenant, from God was established in Christ. The true church, true Christianity, consisted of all those who had trusted in Christ as the one who paid for their sins, and gaining, as He said, eternal Life. "Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life." John 6:47.
