It really depends on what type of dog the person is looking for.
Sometimes, a person may value a dog because of working purpose. For example, a shepherd who wants a hardworking, active dog may favour Collies, Sheepdogs and other members of the Herding/Patrol group. An Inuit may value a Huskies or Spitz for they are strong creatures that help pull their sleds.
A person may also favour a dog because of their temperament. A family who wanted a affectionate, loyal pet may appreciate gentle breeds such as Labrador and Golden Retrievers, while a person looking for an alert, highly trainable and intelligent dog may love German Shepherds.
A person may also like a specific breed of dog based on its appearance. Pomeranians, Yorkshire Terriers, Cocker Spaniels, Toy Poodles, Shih Tzus, Chihuahuas and other cute breeds and lapdogs are highly popular with people looking for adorable dogs.
In conclusion, it really depends on what breed of dog a person wants, but no matter what breed, dogs are loyal and honest, they will never betray or lie to you, and will always be there to listen to your problems: they have the quality for being best friends.
