I use it and its vrey handy, you can watch an online video and when its finished buffering, you can click save, and because its already buffed it will instantly be saved as a file. Note depending on what the online player uses, it will most likely be, flash/FLV format, but there are plenty or converters/codec out there.
Each file type is different, but many are saved automatically in your temporary Internet cache.

Such as saving a webpage will make your next visit to it simply load what it can from the temp files making the site available to you faster. Or cookies which saves certain types of information so that you do not need to input it again.
