If you have only been having your cycle for 6 to 12 months, it is not uncommon to miss or skip a few months. However if you have been sexually active, you really need to see an ob/gyn. It is possible that you could have an ectopic pregnancy which is not always detectable with over-the-counter pregnancy tests because the pregnancy is almost certainly not viable. It may be your birth control if you are taking any they cause irregular periods.
