Loosing weight can be difficult and not very motivating. You need to find yourself a goal, and keep your eyes on the price. Do not make too big commitments in the beginning, it will make it hard to keep it up in the long run. Also, there is no such thing as go on a diet or loose wight, it's called a change in the lifestyle. It has to be a permanent change, and it might take a long time, but get into a routine that is easy and motivating to keep up every day.

Some simple changes can be:

  • Eat healthy, slow, and little at a time every three hours
  • Limit your snack to one per day, and make it a healthy one (fruit, vegetable, yoghurt, nuts, crackers...)
  • Walk or ride your bike whenever you can if you're going somewhere (to a friend's house, to the store, getting the mail, walk a dog...)
  • Try your hardest to improve yourself in Phys Eds at school, and give it all you've got
  • EAT a HEALTHY breakfast every day!!! (Oat meal, Whole Wheat bread, Whole wheat cereal - whole wheat in general is a lot better for you than anything else)
  • Find something you enjoy doing (skiing, walking, running, roller-skating, ice-skating, skiing) and commit to doing this activity for one - two hours two - three times a week (be reasonable, do something you can actually commit to, and do)


Again, the most important things are to remember that these changes should be permanent. You don't just wanna get healthy, you wanna stay healthy. AND set REASONABLE goals, you will give up very early if you put too much pressure upon yourself. Also, if you can find someone to work out with, and eat right with, have them motivate you, and you can motivate them. In addition, you should tell your parents / guardians that you are trying to get in better shape, and ask if they can help with the food they supply you with at home.

(To answer your question, if you are 13 years old and weigh a 190 kilos, you should try and get healthier, weight just doesn't disappear itself, unfortunately, so it will demand some work, and as I said, be REASONABLE, so 3 miles a day might be easy enough to do for the first few days, then it will be easier to come up with excuses, so try something a little more REASONABLE than three miles a day, as it might be hard to go through with in the long run.)


Working out should be fun, not everyone enjoy running, swimming or biking. Find the activity you like and have fun. I also strongly advice to get an mp3 player. Working out with music is even more fun.
