Xanax or alprazolam is a short-term benzodiazepine tranquilizer. It is used to relieve your worst anxiety symptoms until your lexapro and therapy take effect. The only cure for anxiety is medication and therapy. People who use a combination of therapy and antidepressants frequently get to the point where they can stop taking the medication altogether.
