If murder is a crime why doesn't the American president stand trial for war crimes specifically for Iraq etc?

Leaders of countries do stand trial for war crimes. Three issues, though...
I don't think that "war crimes - Iraq" is a correct position. This sounds more like a political position by people that objected to the war. In order to be charged and stand trial, there would need to be a lot more evidence, rather than political passion.
War is a special case. The rules of engagement change the definition of murder. That does not mean killing someone in war can't be murder, it just changes the rules.
The American President, along with leaders and diplomats from all the countries of the world, are protected by diplomatic immunity, so that they can freely travel and do their jobs, without fear of arrest and prosecution. Leaders have, however, been prosecuted, tried, convicted, and even executed but, again, this is not a political process, it is a legal process.
