Try back flushing your heater core first with a back flush kit. It uses water hose pressure in an atempt to push out the gloop by reversing the normal water flow. You will have to likewise attach some fittings in the kit to acept the garden hose attachments.
Either the radiator is partially plugged and t he system has been designed marginally ( they do that to save money you know ! ) so that when the heater is turned on most of the water gets routed through the heater core, bypassing the radiator and causing overheating, or the system is just designed marginally and as above. You can put your hand on the radiator grille and feel it from the front of the car ( using all due caution, of course ) and see if there are any sudden temperature changes from hot to cold. A cold spot indicates a plugged section. The only solution to this is to replace the radiator. And/or you can also put a restriction in the line feeding the heater core, so that more water will flow through the radiator. If your car has worked well in the past with the heater turned on, then I would suspect a partially plugged radiator. I've changed these myself, and it's not hard. Make sure you don't have any other systems bonded to the radiator for cooling, like power steering, a/c , etc. Good Luck !!
Change Myself was created in 2009.
your heater core is probably made of plastic and has finally cracked like they all do. See the dealer or a professional like myself.
about 45 mins to an hour from someone who knows what there doing... an hour to an hour and a half if its your first time.... 1996 Toyota tacoma is my first vehicle, im 20 and I changed the radiator by myself and it took me an hour.....
I solved the problem myself. The answer was so obvious I overlooked it. It turns out I was low on coolant. The vehicle's coolant overflow tank was full but malfunctioning, which led me to believe the radiator was full. In fact, the radiator was about a gallon low. also check the thermostat may be stuck
I PAID $170 FOR MINE IN VA I paid $125 for a radiator online. Installed it myself.
I'm an adult and i want to change my last name how do i do this myself. I live in Florida
If you are smelling the sweet but unpleasant aroma of antifreeze, your vehicle is leaking it somewhere. A lot of the time the culprit is the water pump. They have a weep hole and when the bearing starts to fail it will begging leaking from this hole. I would start by getting myself a flashlight and start scanning your engine's water hoses for a leak. Check the mail hoses going to/from the radiator as well as the heater hoses leading to the firewall. Do you smell the antifreeze odor INSIDE the car? If so, it could be your heater core that's failing.
First did you get all the air in the system out?It is pretty easy to do just leave the radiator cap OFF and let it idle for at least 15-20 minutes and placing some cardboard in front of the radiator speeds up the process, also have the heat on the hot setting, fan speed high. Now if no change I would suggest replacing the thermostat and gasket which is attached at the upper radiator hose and you will have to drain down the coolant not necessarily all of it to do this.Just repeat the process above and if still no heat your heater core may be the problem.A simple way to see if it is even warming up is to touch the core on the drivers side inside the cab above the accelerator just to check.I would bet the heater core is fine,if you had normal heat before the work you stated above.I have owned my bseries for 23 years and know this truck and did in jan2010 replace my radiator, heater core, timing belt, waterpump etc.The radiator, and heater core were the original and just had poor circulation due to age, corrosion. Note with the radiator cap off it may splurge some coolant over after about 10 minutes(normally) have some rags to catch this and then install rad cap and let if continue to idle for another 10 minutes you should have good heat.I suggest buying a stant,or other brand vent lever style radiator cap, this allows you to pull the lever up relieves the pressure so you can take the cap off with the radiator hot.Great investfest for 5-7 bux, I have one myself.
The best way to repair clogged drains is with professional draino. You can also use a plunger or a snake to unplug it. You can find everything you need at your local Home Depot.
I cannot change my statement address myself
You buy a new one and put it in Know that want to know how to install it myself
