If the check engine light on a 2000 Accord will not go off how might you correct this besides checking the gas cap?

Have the computer scanned for trouble codes. The code will indicate the area of the problem. Do not continue to drive the vehicle. Damage can occur to certain emmissions parts.
On my 2001 Accord EX, the CEL comes on tripped by the odometer. After ensureing therer is nothing mechanical wrong, hold the odomter reset button down while you start the car. Keep holding. The light will flash for about 10 seconds then go out till the next 20 25K miles. Worked great for me. Good luck.
