Get your battery tested, I think a new one might be in order.
If you are 100% sure that the battery is good and all the connections are clean and tight, then you need a new starter. But make sure all that is okay first. does it have the right starter on it to start with? Have you been working on the engine and have it out of time??
Seized engine? Loose or cooroded battery terminal Bad starter solenoid? Bad neutral or clutch safety switch?
if it wont crank the the starter is probally out but if it cranks and the motor doesnt turn either the belt is to loose or the engine is locked up
you can try to short the starter motor . take a screw driver and bridge ffrom battery cable on starter to ignition wire on starter. if starter is good, engine will crank. if starter is bad , solenoid will click if no clicking, solenoid is bad
The starter is located at the front right of the engine. It is located between the engine and battery. You can trace the thin cable that runs from the battery to the back of the starter to locate it.
What is the trick for removing the starter, from the engine, I have the starter unbolted but has a small compartment that stops me removing it from the engine?
The starter could be bad. Or the battery. The starter could be bad. Or the battery.
Follow the ground wire from the battery. The ground wire from the battery goes right into the starter/connected to the starter. Passenger side of the engine compartment under the engine.
IF YOUR MODEL HAS AN INLINE STARTER RELAY (BIG BLUE IDENTIFIED IN ENGINE ROOM) IT MAY HAVE FAILED. IF NOT THEN CHK FOR POWER AT STARTER, IF IT HAS POWER THEN STARTER IS BAD.
You didn't mention what size engine you have but, if you follow the positive battery cable from the battery it will lead you to the starter relay, then to the starter.
You didn't say what engine you have but, if you follow the positive battery cable from the battery it will lead you to the starter.
It depends on what year and engine you have but, if you follow the positive battery cable from the battery, it will lead you right to the starter.
