Answercheck speed censor AnswerIf your speedo and or cruise control still function, its not the VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) It is likely the drive/worm gear on the odo. unfortunatly, it'll probly cost $50 (Fifty) dollars for the gear to replace it :) Try here, I'm in the process of repairing two of my clusters now. 95/92 SC's May as well get some nice white faces while your in there. http://www.odometergears.com/subpages/Ford.HTML http://www.instrumentclusters.com/odometer_gears.HTML

whatever you do, DO NOT reset the trip while you are driving. that's probably what wore out the gears.

Our odometer/tripmeter also just stopped working at 220,000 miles. This is an integral part of the speedometer assembly, and cannot be repaired. The entire speedometer must be replaced.

Why does your 1990 GMC Sierra 1500 odometer occassionally stop working?

Speed sensor While yes the speed sensor can cause the odometer to quit working the speedometer will quit at the same time. If you have the electronic cluster (the orange bar with the white behind it) there is a motor that runs the odometer and that can stop working. That cluster is designed to where you can replace just that unit, although I don't know where you'll be able to find a decent working one. -answered by Sye
