happened to me...had to get a new one....cost about$400...it was a 1990 s/c...hope this helps.Answercheck speed censor AnswerIf your speedo and or cruise control still function, its not the VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) It is likely the drive/worm gear on the odo. unfortunatly, it'll probly cost $50 (Fifty) dollars for the gear to replace it :) Try here, I'm in the process of repairing two of my clusters now. 95/92 SC's May as well get some nice white faces while your in there. http://www.odometergears.com/subpages/Ford.HTML http://www.instrumentclusters.com/odometer_gears.HTML
whatever you do, DO NOT reset the trip while you are driving. that's probably what wore out the gears.
The gauge has failed.
If the speedometer breaks, it effects the odometer. Check the speedometer cable it may be broken, even under the insulation.
There is no fuse for the odometer. If it is mechanical and not working it most likely had a stripped or broken gear.
This happend on one of my cares. It was just a cable that needed to be changed under the hood. I am sure anyone at napa or autozone can help you out.
i have a 1990 Isuzu trooper as well and the speedometer and odometer also quit working, they both come off of a mechanical cable that is attached to the drive train. that cable breaks, and you lose both speed and odometer indications. they are extremely difficult to find, so if you do, write me back...
Our odometer/tripmeter also just stopped working at 220,000 miles. This is an integral part of the speedometer assembly, and cannot be repaired. The entire speedometer must be replaced.
Radio in 1990 Lexus LS400 stopped working, possible answer?
If the speedometer doesn't work either, then the cable broke or came loose. Otherwise, the gears in the odometer broke.
check your fuses

The 1990 Ford Thunderbird was developed on Ford's Mid-Size North American Project 12 platform. This Thunderbird featured a more aerodynamic body that was shorter in overall length in comparison to the earlier Thunderbird, but with a longer wheelbase.
Speed sensor While yes the speed sensor can cause the odometer to quit working the speedometer will quit at the same time. If you have the electronic cluster (the orange bar with the white behind it) there is a motor that runs the odometer and that can stop working. That cluster is designed to where you can replace just that unit, although I don't know where you'll be able to find a decent working one. -answered by Sye

where is the flasher located in a 1990 thunderbird supercoupe
If you open the odometer, there are two small plastic gears. One is connected to the speedometer, the other to the odometer. The speedometer gear drives the odometer gear. In all likelihood, one of these gears is missing a few teeth. I have the same problem with my Ramcharger, same year.
On a 1990 Ford Thunderbird : The 3.8 liter V6 engine distributor rotor turns COUNTERCLOCKWISE
On a 1990 Ford Thunderbird : There should be an EEC TEST connection in the engine compartment for the OBD I , EEC IV system
The ABS Control Module on a 1990 Ford Thunderbird is in the electronics tray in the trunk. It hangs from the rear speaker deck.
I have never heard of a Nissan bluebird but federal law forbids the disconnecting of the odometer
If the speedometer stopped working on a 1990 Cadillac Seville, it could be the fuse or an electrical problem. First check the fuse and if the fuse is good, check with a mechanic.
You can't...it's electronic.
it is under the hood near the battery.
When those things on my 92 B250 did not work, I replaced the speed sensor located on the transmission tailshaft and that fixed the problems. Hope that helped! Mark When the speedometer and odometer did not work in my 1990 B250, I had to replace the speed sensor, instrument cluster (speedometer) and replace a tiny gear (odometer) in order to get them working properly
