By replacing the chain and tensioners.
Quite a variety of possibilities. Maybe a loose heat sheild, or a serious engine problem. Post what you find after you visit a local independent repair shop.
U do that by fixing the EGR Valve OR the Vaccume hose going 2 it.
i had a rattling noise in my 2000 ls, was told it was worn tensioners on timing chain. i guess they are made out of a poly carbon and wear after a while. haven't fixed problem yet...
