From what i understand, the vehicle can stay registered and insured in the home state to remain the same as the title holder or lienholder, you are basically using a borrowed vehicle, that makes you not responsible for the registration and insurance

Does the insurance company have to change the principle place of garaging vehicle if college student wants to take a car to the dorm at a school in the same state?

Usually not. Your kid, while still in school, will probably consider your home his primary residence. Generally, insurance companies do, too. In your case, in particular, being in the same state makes it highly unlikely that your carrier will base your rates on two separate residences. The above answer is incorrect, the majority of insurance companies will rate the Kid at the address of the school if in the same State as the parents. It is'nt based on where the kid thinks his primary residence is. If the kid is going to be going to school -out of state- then the insurance company will use the parents address as the rating address

Insure A Student Driver In Georgia?

Parents in Georgia often dread the day their teenage son or daughter obtains their driver's license. Not only is it difficult to hand over the car keys and hope that nothing goes wrong, the increased insurance rates can be frightening. Thankfully there are a few ways to lower the insurance costs for student drivers. Many insurance companies are willing to give a discount if certain other criteria are met.Insuring A Student DriverWhen a Georgia teenager first takes driving lessons and is in possession of a learner's permit, most insurance companies do not bother to hit the parents with a rate increase. The child can only drive with an adult in the car and accident rates are minimal. It is always a good idea to contact the insurance provider and let them know that a student driver will be operating the vehicle covered by insurance.Things change when the teen obtains his or her driver's license. Insurance must be carried for a teenager where required by law. In Georgia teen drivers as well as adults must carry liability insurance. If the car being driven is covered by collision and comprehensive insurance the rates for this coverage will probably increase because teenagers are considered high-risk drivers.Ways To Lower Insurance For Teen DriversWhen a student driver has no accidents before obtaining his or her license many insurance companies will offer an immediate discount. Insurance for teen drivers is also less when the car being driven already has full collision and comprehensive coverage in addition to the required liability insurance. Many insurance companies also offer discounts if the youngster has a high grade point average in school and has completed a driver education course approved by the state.Insurance rates will be much higher if the teenager owns a car. Although most insurance companies will be happy to add this vehicle to an existing policy the monthly premiums will increase significantly. Parents looking to lower the cost of adding a teen driver will perhaps save a bit by becoming the legal owner of the teenager's vehicle. Shopping around for the best rates should be undertaken as soon as the teenager obtains his or her license.Use A Comparison SiteUnless the parents feel a strong sense of loyalty to the present insurance company it pays to shop around for a better deal. Some insurance companies offer a good discount for teen and student drivers if the policy contains not only liability and collision insurance but also uninsured motorist protection and personal injury protection. Comparison sites link to various providers who are able to see what each other quotes. Georgia resident can sit back and let them compete with each other for business.
