Surely you'll lose weight to some point, but might I stress where you'll lose it? I've fought with my eating habits for practically my whole life. I've tried staying at or under 500 calories a day, and eaten way more than I should have a times. 500 calories a day isn't going to get you anywhere in the long run because your metabolism will slow down, you'll feel starved, and when you do lose weight you'll be losing muscle. All you need to do is exercise (I do 6 days a week), and eat healthy. Personally my calorie range is 1300 to 1500 for losing weight. I can lose a couple pounds every week that I maintain that. Let me put all of this in to a basic perspective for you... in the long run MORE calories equals long time weight loss, and a trimmed, slim athletic body. 500 calories is going to leave you with flab, and no definition. I hope this helps to answer your question, and you choose the option that makes the most common sense. :D
500 calories a day is a VERY small amount. Even with a slow metabolism, you would need to be exercising to burn off the calories. Certain foods can also boost your metabolism (this is a belief, and some still disagree with it.) Other things to help your metabolism are spicy foods or ice cold water. This will allow you to eat more of a healthy diet. (i.e. - more than 500 calories a day.) Either way, exercise is key to burn calories to lose weight.
500 cal isn't much, most people lose more than at sheer baseline existence. Losing 500 cals MORE than usually is a good step towards weight loss, but it still relies on how many calories you're eating. If you're overeating with 700 cals then losing 500 will only slow your gain down.
First step in any weight loss attempt is to control your intake, then think about exercise.
Unless you are a very small child who is inactive, you will not gain weight by limiting yourself to 500 calories daily or less. However, you may not lose weight either because that would put your body in starvation mode which would lower your metabolism so that you stay alive. Starvation is not a healthy or effective diet.
Eating only 500 calories a day is very unhealthy eat at least 1000 and work out
