I believe you can be an ordained deacon. Under the Roman Rite, you cannot be married and a priest. There may be some exceptions for Episcopal priests who were married and who converted. Also, the Melchite Rite, which accepts Roman authority, might allow a married priesthood.

In some of the eastern rites of Catholicism a married man is allowed to become a priest but a priest is not allowed to marry after he has been ordained.

No. However they can be married prior to becoming ordained a Deacon and stay married. They can have children before or after the ordination as a married Deacon. However, it is my understanding that, once ordained, the deacon must remain celebate.

Can Roman Catholic married men become priests if their wives consent?

No, not at all.A married man can be ordained a permanent deacon with his wife's consent but not a priest.Roman Catholic AnswerIn the Roman Catholic Church, there are different rites or "Churches", of which the Latin Rite is the largest, and most well known. Following the Schism of the East in the 12th century, most of the Eastern Rites broke into two, thus there is a Greek Orthodox Church and a Greek Uniate Church. Another ancient rite of the Church is the Maronite Rite which uses the St. James Liturgy. Each Church has its own set of canon law, and its own liturgy, all of which are ancient. Only in the Latin Rite and unmarried man normally ordained. Historically, other rites have ordained married men to the priesthood, and this was considered normal. Bishops were mostly chosen form the monks or celibate clergy so they were never married. So to answer your question, yes, Roman Catholic men who are married may be ordained with their wive's consent, except Latin Rite men. There are exceptions even to that rule, as with the conversions of the Anglian clergy, who may be ordained to the priesthood if they are married, and Rome accepts them.

Can a Catholic chaplain get married?

It depends upon the level of his ordination. If he is a laychaplain - i.e. if he is not ordained - then yes, he can marry. If he has been ordained a deacon in the Catholic Church, then again, he can marry. But if the chaplain is an ordained priest (or bishop), then in the Roman Catholic Church they are not allowed to marry and take a vow of celibacy (not having sex) at their ordination. There has been a lot of controversy over this man-made rule recently especially as a very small percentage of priests in the Anglican Church (who ARE allowed to marry) have defected to the Catholic Church because they disagreed with women in the Anglican Church being allowed to be ordained. This has caused quite a stir and many feel the ban on marriage of priests in the Roman Catholic Church as outdated and wrong and are looking to the time when married priests and bishops (of both sexes) will be allowed into the Catholic Church.
