There are two possibilities.
1: He is realising that he is gay or possibly bi but isn't ready to say it or may not have even come to terms with it.
2: He is bi-curious and is just experimenting. This is only likely to be true if he is a teenager or in his early 20's (during puberty)
I would suggest waiting for him to tell you or ask him upfront.

You should be open to exploring other people who aren't straight. You'll probably have a better relationship and you'll both feel more conformable.
