  • OF COURSE NOT!!!!! matter how well they know you if they don't invite you to their birthday party then don't feel obligated to get them a gift and if they tell you later that you forgot their birthday then tell them you weren't invited to the birthday party. End of conversation!

If a classmate gave you a gift at your party do you give a gift to him who is not having a party?

If you received a gift from someone at your birthday party, your only requirement is to send a thank you note or card. You may choose to acknowledge the birthday with a small gift, a card or your personal good-wishes.

Should I bring a gift at restaurant birthday dinner or do the guests pay for the person's bill whose birthday it is or both?

If you were invited to a birthday party at a restaurant by someone other than the Guest of honour, then check with them. Generally speaking the host is the one to pay for the guest of honour. You should be prepared to pay for your own meal and drinks and bring a gift for the guest of honour unless the invitation says "no gifts" in which case a card is appropriate.

Do you give an engagement gift to someone if you are not invited to their engagement?

When I was engaged, I did not receive any engagement gifts. I do not know of any of my friends who received engagement gifts either. I think that a good replacement to an engagement gift would be a gift for their bridal shower or bachelor party in addition to a wedding gift.
