If the average number of hours is 40 hours, then you should be paid at over time rate for the excess for the 20 hours that is above contracted time. IE 40 - 60 = 20

In Canada What is the minimum hours an employer has to pay you if your sent home early?

It is more the minimum amount of money that an employer has to pay versus the number of hours. If an employee works less than 3 hours than the employer is required to pay the employee an amount equal to 3 hours of work at the minimum wage in the respective province. So for example, in Alberta the minimum wage is $8.80/ hours X 3 hours is $26.40, so if the employee's hourly rate is in excess of the minimum wage, for example $12.00, than the employer is only required to pay 2.2 hours, which is $26.40 / 12.

What is base salary?

Base salary is what you get each month (or each week) to do what you are required to do within the hours agreed. Besides the base salary, you may be entitled to a commission, bonus, premium, etc. It must be written black on white in the contract. If you've got nothing written there, then it's up to your boss (or superior) to evaluate and congratulate your performance with some extra money. If you are a salesman, base salary is usually low because the employer wants you to be motivated to earn more by selling a lot. If you are a top manager, you get a good salary but extra hours will not be paid (it's the result that counts).

If you are on salary in work your two week notice put in 80 hours but only got paid for 64 hours and the rest in pto can a employer do that?

In most states, if you are on salary your employer is not obligated to pay you for the exact number of hours worked; you are also not eligible for overtime pay. In some cases you won't get any compensation, but in many cases you will get paid time off instead of seeing the actual pay reflected in your paycheck.

What is the importance of a contract of employment?

Employment contracts are a statement to declare what is expected of you in your job role, as well as what is expected of your employer. An employer is required to supply an employee with an employment contract within two months of the employment starting. The kinds of things stated in employment contracts can vary, however some basic elements include salary, working hours and overtime.

If you work for a nonprofit agency and you are paid a salary is there a limited number or maximum number of hours over forty that your employer can make you work?

If you work 40 hours a week, your done! You dont have to work anymore hours if you dont want to. It is against the law for any employer to force their employees to work if they dont want to. Call the labor board if you feel your rights have been violated. As for hours, you can work all the hours you want as long as its approved with your employer.

Can employer change hours worked on timesheet and paycheck?

That should read "can employer CHANGE hours worked on timesheet and paycheck? My husband's employer goes in the computer system and changes my husband's hours to reflect 40 hours worked though he has worked many more hours than 40 each week. His paycheck also reflects that he just worked 40 hours. If your husband is on salary, then he is paid only for 40 hours. If he is hourly, then he should be paid for the hours he works. Of course, if overtime is against policy, then your husband should leave work after 40 hours.
