If you had unprotected sexual intercourse, you run a high risk of becoming pregnant, even if you don't want to be.

A woman can become pregnant at any time throughout her cycle, including during her menstrual period, even though you are more likely to conceive during ovulation. Ovulation occurs about 14 days after the first day of your last menstrual period. This can actually range 10 to 17 days since many women are not always completely regular.

Spotting can mean any number of things. Maybe the intercourse you had the night before was too rough, thus friction causing you to be raw inside and causing you to have some extremely light bleeding. Maybe you are not always regular and the spotting is just part of your cycle. Spotting in the very early stage of pregnancy is most likely an indication of implantation bleeding. Spotting even occurs when you first begin taking Birth Control pills or the patch.

If you have a period after the last time you had sexual intercourse, you are not pregnant. However, many women even confuse their period with vaginal bleeding. Vaginal bleeding is the actual term for any bleeding during pregnancy because it is caused by something other than your menstrual period. A menstrual period during pregnancy cannot occur.

With this in mind and you are still concerned you may be pregnant, you should obtain a home pregnancy test and use it if you are late for or miss your next menstrual period. Should the home pregnancy test read positive, seek an appointment with your OB/GYN right away so they can get you worked into the doctor's schedule in a timely manner.
