- There are thousands of individuals that are shy, but they need to make an effort by choosing someone that has the same interests they do and communicating that. Yes, being socially shy or considered a 'wallflower' is inept, because everywhere in our society we have to converse with others. Take up theater or join a group where you learn to speak in front of others. You will learn tools as to how to deal with society as a whole and the shyness will eventually go away. That being said, there are some individuals that are quiet and do not wish to be the center of attention and that is just fine, but socially speaking it's a must for an individual to make an effort to try and reach out to others so they can gain some good friendships and also bolster their careers.
