Once they no longer make their payments, then you will be responsible for this debt. My suggestion is after 4 to 6 months from becoming a co-signer on an account, call the creditor or lender and request for your name to be removed from the account as a "Co-signer". Some creditors or lenders will allow this, and it will not affect the primary borrower.
