What happens if I was taking oral contraceptives when I was already pregnant? While no one would intentionally take oral contraceptives if they knew they were pregnant, many women each year inadvertently take pills being unaware they are already pregnant. In the U.S. and Europe, in approximately 2-5% of all pregnancies mothers have a history of having taken Birth Control pills without realizing they were pregnant. Many years ago, with higher dose contraceptive pills, there were concerns that the hormones in pills could produce genital changes in both male and female babies. Subsequent studies have failed to confirm this. At the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Canada, the Motherisk program which tracks various birth defects, there is a good article on oral contraceptives and their effect on pregnancy (3). This article suggests that there is no need to be concerned about the pills causing birth defects any more than the background rate of birth defects that normally occurs.
if you are doing this as a replacement to abortion stop now. if a woman is pregnant and takes the birth control pill while being pregnant it may terminate the pregnancy however it could also just lead to birth defects. it could lead to the baby dying inside of your uterus while still connected to the placenta which can result in different kinds of infections to you ... it could lead to a still birth which is giving birth to a baby that is already dead. taking the pill while pregnant shoudl never be used as an alternative to an abortion. it is very dangerous and may lead to results you might find impossible to deal with. if you dont know for sure if you are pregnant but think you might be continue to take the pill to protect yourself but get a pregnancy test immediatly. if it is positive terminate the pill immediatly and see a doctor for further guidance
Not sure what you are asking. but NO, you should not be taking birth control during pregnancy. However, if you are taking oral contraceptive pills or depot provera and discover you are pregnant, you should not worry. Women who were on the birth control pill or depot provera during their pregnancy do not have any problems with their pregnancy i.e. they can carry the pregnancy to term and without any fetal abnormalities from the hormones.
BUT if you are on birth control and find out you are pregnant, please STOP the birth control, unless you intend to get an abortion. In which case you should resume the birth control the day of the abortion.
and if you are using condoms, you should continue to use that through pregnancy for STD prevention purposes not for birth control.
The amount of hormon in the pill could cause problems in the baby. The baby could become retarded, or it could have other similar problems.
You would cause birth defects with the baby.
Nothing. Many do this in the beginning since they don't know they are pregnant yet.
Nothing happens.
yes ou can still get pregnant, birth control is not 100%, no matter how many you take.
You cant take a pill to get pregnant ! Getting pregnant involves having un-protected sex !
Hi, Nothing will happen but you will still probably feel abdominal cramping and may experience vaginal bleeding.
you can take one at any time you think you are pregnant.
Yes. If you miss a pill, you need to take it as soon as you remember, but there is still a chance you may get pregnant.
If you are trying to get pregnant then you should not take the pill at all.
Yes, but if you have been taking the pill like prescribed, you probably aren't pregnant. make sure you are pregnant before stopping the pill otherwise you will be pregnant pdq
Sure you can. Even if you take your pill everyday at the same time as recommended, there is still a chance you can get pregnant. Of course, many don't take their pill at the same time each day and sometimes forget a day or two. No contraception is 100% effective. Your chance is very low if you take it as recommended, but there IS still a chance of pregnancy.
If you stop your pill, yes you can become pregnant. "Missing" period doesn't affect fertility. If you continuously take your pill everyday, you won't become pregnant (99,7% efficiency) even if you never make pauses.
You need to specify what pill you are talking about.
Typically as long as you stop taking it when you find out you are pregnant, it should not cause any harm to the baby. Good luck.
