Transcripts are used for placement as well as admissions. Even if you did not take honors or college prep courses, your grades in basic subjects will help determine whether you need introductory or remedial work before you can take college level courses. If you had three years of a foreign language in high school, for example, that might satisfy a language requirement for your major, so that you could skip the intro class if you did well. Alternatively, if you did not take advanced math in high school, you might have to take algebra or geometry, etc. even if you passed basic math on the GED.
