If you feel you are falling out of love with somebody that you have been with for a year is that supposed to make you incredibly sad for 5 months?

This is a really hard question to answer because I don't know your whole history with this person.
Two things can happen in this situation. You have gone with this person for a year and you are use to seeing them, dating, having fun so have fond memories. It's often hard to walk away from some of the fun times you had, but if the bad out-weighs the good, then you have made a good decision.
Secondly, you may still be in love with this person. A psychiatrist once told my sister-in-law (she was having personal problems) that she should sit down and list all the good things about that person, then all the bad things and put it away for a week, then go back and read it. Remember, we aren't perfect so 6 out of 10 ain't bad! LOL
I hope you do write that list and then re-read it and I think you'll get your answer.
