It's best to remain friends with him until he gets over his grieving for his wife which could take several months or more. By being there for him you are constantly in his view and perhaps later he'll consider dating, but not now. At this point in time he's not 'into' any woman and is just trying to put one foot in front of the other while he's grieving. If you're smart you'd let him just talk about his wife (if he wants) and be a good listener. Don't rush things.
