your relay is broken, a wire is crossed, or the selonoid on the startr is bad.
starter gear is to close to flywheel install starter shim
The starter has probably failed.
either the starter is worn out and needs rebuilding, or the battery is bad
sounds like your in the market for a starter.
Sounds like the solenoid on top of the starter is bad. If the plunger return spring is broken, the starter stays engaged all the time.
i would take a good guess that when the starter is engaged through the sylenoid that it is sticking and when you go to shut it off it stays engaged
Well you might want to check the wires that connect back to the starter. If you missed one that should be bolted to the starter it'll be hanging or stuck somewhere - most likely touching metal. If it is touching any metal it will always try to engage when you hook up the other end of the wire to the battery. -Sara replace your selonid
The wires to the starter are probably connected wrong.
If your starter stays engaged it is either your stater relay (solenoid) or your ignition switch. It is usually the relay, either mounted on your inner fender(earlier system)or on the starter itself.Follow the positive cable (red) from your battery,if it goes directly to your starter it is the later system. To test disconnect the ignition wire on the relay, the small gauge wire.If there is 2 small wires on the fender mounted relay you can disconnect them both if your not sure witch is ignition wire.Leave the 2 large wires connected. If it still is turning over it is your relay,if it stopped it is your ignition. If you have the stater mounted relay remove the small wire from the "S" terminal, and repeat as above.
Try a new starter or ignition.
i would hazzard a guess at the lamp stays on due to the fault not being taken out of its memory, if the problem has been fixed you need to clear its memory, as for the starter motor problem i had this and it was down to cranking power the starter motor demands so much in the begining and if your alternator is not charging you battery proply that could you problem, you can get this checked at any local garage
I have a Toyota Tundra with the same engine. That happened to me. (I turned off the key and it kept on cranking, had to disconnect the battery to get it to stop) Turned out to be the starter solonoid was stuck closed. I had a poor connection on the battery and caused a low voltage, high current condition to the starter solonoid, welding the contacts together. I was lucky, I cleaned the battery posts and "whacked" the starter with a small hammer to jar the contacts loose. It's been working since. If that doesn't work for you, disconnect the small wire going to the starter and try again. If it still cranks when you reconnect the battery, remove the starter and dissassemble the solonoid. You will find the contacts to be a copper washer and two copper bolts. Most starter repair shops will have the necessary parts to replace the items, if not, you can turn the washer over to the unused side and on some you can remove the bolts and rotate them 180 degrees to a portion that isn't worn. Good luck!
