In most states, depending on the seriousness of your injury, you might qualify for Workers Compensation. If not, then your reduction in hours usually qualifies you for unemployment benefits. Because both situations vary from state to state, you need to contact your state's unemployment office for clarification.

No. You cannot get unemployment because you quit your job. Only people who are laid off are eligible for unemployment. People who quit or are fired are not eligible.

Now, if you hurt yourself on the job, you would be able to get worker's compensation. It's a little complicated now because you quit the job (it's the employer who pays worker's compensation and not the government. And since you no longer have an employer...)

If you hurt yourself on your job, call a worker's compensation lawyer. they will ask you about your case and figure out if you can make a worker's comp claim. They will talk to you for free so don't worry about it.

Another answer:There are many reasons that a person quitting their job is eligible for unemployment (or Workman's Comp if injured). It could be for: harassment, abuse, toxic or otherwise harmful working conditions (hence OSHA!!), spouse being transferred or relocated, domestic violence issues, etc. Not all states have the same criteria for determining "quitting issues", but enough do that you need to check with your own to see if your situation qualifies. "No", is an answer that is too final and needs to be researched. Even being "fired" can be for the wrong,or illegal reasons, on the part of the employer. The state pays unemployment from the unemployment taxes it collects from employers (it also helps turn-over rates of a business).

Does paying out unemployment insurance to a former employee increase the unemployment taxes for the employer?

The employer does not pay to the former employee. The employer pays unemployment taxes to the state he does business in, and the state, in turn, pays the benefits to the unemployed worker. If the employer has a large enough labor turn over, the state will raise his tax percentage payable accordingly.

If you quit a part time job so you can collect unemployment due to the loss of your primary income and your part time employer does not inform you that you will lose your unemployment benefits?

The unemployment benefits in all states are intended as insurance for the "non-voluntary" loss of employment, i.e., layoff or RIFs [Reductions in Force]That means, with a very few exceptions for extraordinary circumstances, that if a person VOLUNTARILY QUITS a job, then that individual IS NOT ELIGIBLE for unemployment benefits. The employer paid, payroll based, "premium" money "paid" to the states is only barely enough to cover the operation of the unemployment system offices and staff, and IS NOT the same money benefit recipients receive. The money in a weekly unemployment check is paid by the last employer who terminated the recipientAlso, in Texas [I am unaware of other states], self-employed individuals are not eligible for unemployment benefits. Ostensibly, the reason for this is that if the self-employed individual is "out of business," then how could he pay his own unemployment benefits!Because of the last employer having to pay the weekly unemployment benefit checks, when a terminated individual files for benefits, the claim is forwarded to the employer who is allowed to challenge the claimant's eligibility to receive payment of the benefit. If the employer claims, and can prove, that the employee voluntarily quit, OR was FIRED FOR CAUSE, then the employer can "kill" the claim, preventing the need to have to pay the benefits, and thus preventing the ex-employee from receiving any payment.

Can you collect unemployment from California if you temporarily move to Illinois?

Yes, you can collect unemployment insurance if you have worked in Hawaii but moved to California. Even if you think you do not have enough in Hawaii's unemployment insurance to collect. I worked in California all my life and was offered a job in Hawaii in October 2008. I worked until March 2009 and then tried to collect while i lived in Hawaii. I was denied befits in Hawaii in March 2009, so I moved back to California and could not find work so i collected unemployment in California. It was a knowledgeable person in California EDD that recommended that i file in Hawaii versus California because of the amount i would collect there was a lot more than i collected here. I told them I was denied benefits over there because i did not work long enough over there (hence; i did not put enough money in Hawaii's Kitty) So California's EDD said they would transfer what I put in California's unemployment insurance to Hawaii's unemployment insurance, then that would make me eligible to collect.

You may not be. Bad enough you were injured, but on the other hand, you could've informed your employer of you situation and simply ask for a leave of absence, which the law allows.

Am i eligible for unemployment if i was fired as part of lawsuit settlement?

Not enough information is given to answer the question properly. You MAY be eligible but you would have to check with your local State Unemployment Office. Under the circumstances, don't be too surprised if your former employer challenges your filing for them.
