You don't leave it in four weeks. If you did, there wouldn't be a week without it. You would go from the fourth week right into the next ring. If you don't leave them in long enough, there is a chance of getting pregnant. << doesn't know what they are talking about really... ok so actual answer: nuva ring has an extra week safety net if you forget to take it out at the end of the 3rd week you have an extra week... just take it out at the end of that 4th week leave it out for a week and resume use take it out after three weeks :)
You CAN leave the ring in for 4 weeks, it will still work for up to that. It's fine to have your period every 5 weeks if that's what you want to do. But most women leave it in for just 3 weeks and have their period every 4.
You can do either.
Stated in the NuvaRing patient information included in the package, "If NuvaRing has been left in your vagina for an extra week or less (four weeks total or less) you will remain protected."
You can leave one ring in place for 4 weeks still have protection according to the manufacturer. 3 weeks and put a new one in
Yes my gynecologist recommended it actually you can continue to put new rings in after three weeks and not give yourself a period for as long as you're comfortable, eventually you will start spotting (I could only go 3 rings before i would spot). She said that when you start spotting you shouldn't use another ring without giving yourself a period. She also recommended not going more than 4 rings without giving yourself a period.
== == Taken directly from the NuvaRing package insert, "If NuvaRing has been left in your vagina for an extra week or less (four weeks total or less), you will remain protected."
Check the little folded paper that comes with your prescription - the above direct quote is under the heading "If NuvaRing is in your vagina too long."
It certainly sounds to me like the manufacturer is saying that you will be protected from pregnancy for a full 4 weeks. I'm doing this and have not yet gotten pregnant!
The ring should only be effective for three weeks, therefore if not replaced you will probably being your period after three weeks time. Most likely, you will be protected. However, although this is something many women are doing, the manufacturer will not guarantee that you will have full protection during that last week since this is a device that is emitting hormone and not something you have more control over such as taking a pill. Hormone levels *do* go down during that last week (see under the heading "prolonged use" http://www.nuvaring.com/hcp/patientsupport/nuvaringhelp/). If you are looking to use Birth Control continuously in order to avoid having your period, you would be better off using an oral contraceptive, skipping the placebo week.
Insert the new one in four days. If you wait a week, you'll be at increased risk for pregnancy during the first seven days of that cycle.
You keep it in. You don't change your nuvaring based on bleeding. You just change it according to schedule, using the calendar, regardless of bleeding.
Breakthrough bleeding may last for days or weeks when you skip a period with hormonal birth control. Typically, it just lasts for a few days.
If you inserted NuvaRing during your period, you're likely to bleed again in two to four weeks.
Inserting NuvaRing during your period is likely to slow bleeding, but it may not stop altogether. Starting NuvaRing during the first five days of bleeding gives immediate pregnancy protection.
You can skip your period for as long as you like (there is no maximum) or not at all, depending on your preferences.
Yes, stopping NuvaRing will normally cause bleeding. Just as you bleed when you remove NuvaRing after three weeks, you will have withdrawal bleeding after you stop NuvaRing permanently. Your regular menstrual pattern should restart within four to six weeks.
I found this on the NuvaRing website http://www.nuvaring.com/Consumer/patientSupport/nuvaRingHelp/index.asp?ComponentID=76346&SourcePageID=74639#1 I hope it helps. If NuvaRing
If you insert NuvaRing eight days late, you are at risk for pregnancy. Use a backup method for at least seven days. Timing of your next episode of withdrawal bleeding will be unpredictable. Take a pregnancy test if you had sex that wasn't protected due to the error in NuvaRing use. Consider changing to a method that doesn't require you to do something every month.
NuvaRing remains effective for up to four weeks after inserting it. If you leave it in for the four weeks, though, be sure to insert the next ring at the end of the four weeks; don't take a ring-free week unless you had it in for just three weeks.
If you removed your NuvaRing a week early, put in a new ring now.

When used during the directed period of three weeks by the doctor.
The question is a little confusing... You left it in for the 4 weeks so that you could skip 1 months withdrawal period. Then you took it out for 1 week to have the withdrawal period at the beginning of the next session. Did you reinsert a new ring after the 1st week of the new session? If you did not reinsert the ring after the period that you mentioned and you have had unprotected sex your period may be late because you are pregnant. But it is also possible that your body is still adjusting to the ring. Refer to this from the Nuvaring pamphlet/websight: You must check for pregnancy if: 1. you miss a period and NuvaRing
