I am guessing that you are wondering when plugging your phone into the computer, will it be connected to the internet?
You are not connected to the Internet through plugging the phone in. You are connected when you go on your phone into Settings>Wifi. Select the wifi your computer is connected to, type in the WEP Key if there is one, and you now have Internet and are not wasting your data.
