In essence, yes it would.

When a wound heals, collagen fibres are generated which bind the skin together. The closer the edges of a wound are, the less work the body has to do to bridge the gap.

Bear in mind that this isn't a two minute process and can take at least a few days. Therefore butterfly stitches or tissue adhesive are probably the best treatment for a reasonably sized cut to ensure you're not sitting there all day holding it!
