Putting plastic over the stud walls before sheetrock is not recommended. The moisture will be trapped between the sheetrock and plastic and the home will not breathe.

What are the main functions of moisture meters?

To monitor moisture/humidity in moisture sensitive products such as: grains, wood, concrete, etc. Moisture meters help detect where there could be a moisture problem and mold could grow from that moisture.

What causes a car to sputter and misfire when it is raining outside?

Frequently in older vehicles, high humidity or rainy weather can cause poor performance, usually because of a problem in the ignition system. Moisture and condensation may be forming in the distributor. Also, the ignition (suppression) wires may be old and arcing from one cable to another, causing timing issues and misfire problems. That problem is aggravated by moisture and humidity.

Can chicks in an incubator not be able to get out of their shell?

Yes, for several reasons some chicks never peep from the shell. Most often the problem is lack of humidity. As the chick grows in the shell moisture is used up and also evaporates from the porous shell. This lost moisture needs to be replaced by humid conditions surrounding the shell. A humidity of 65% needs to be maintained from day one through to day 18 and then increased to 80% for the final three days.

How much humidity is low humidity?

Moderate humidity is the best for your home, humidity level should always be between 30% and 50%. Higher humidity at home allows mold spores to grow and dust mites to flourish. If you have a humidity problem, you can invest in a dehumidifier or call a professional.

Why air coolers will not provide effective cooling in humid areas?

Air coolers work by evaporating water into the air. Because air can only hold a certain amount of moisture, the more moisture in the air to begin with, the less you can add. The technical answer is to use a psychrometric chart to analyze the problem. A common thermometer measures dry bulb temperatures (the x-axis on the chart). From that temperature follow a vertical line up until you reach the current relative humidity value. This intersection gives the properties for the air you're trying to cool. From this point, a horizontal line all the way to the left side of the graph will give you the temperature for 100% relative humidity level. This value is the theoretical minimum temperature you can reach through evaporative cooling. Seeing this with numbers shows that a common value for someplace humid, like Florida today is, 80 deg F and around 80% humidity. If you follow these values on the chart, the minimum temperature you can achieve is around 74 deg F @ 100% humidity. The same problem with cooling someplace dry, like Arizona, where the temperature is warmer, 100 deg F, but the humidity is lower, 15%, can get a minimum temperature of 44 deg F @ 100% humidity. This level of humidity is uncomfortable, and most people shoot for around 50%. If you live someplace dry use evaporative cooling (adding moisture to cool a space) and if you live someplace humid, use air conditioning (cooling & removing moisture to condition a space).

The major contributors to black mold in your home are high relative humidity levels, excess water in the home/leaks, and flooding. The most important precaution that any homeowner can take in the prevention of black mold in the home would be to control moisture/humidity levels in the home by using a good dehumidifier.
