why did you have to change the sensor in the first place? was it broken? are you sure you put the correct one back in? if so, are you sure you are running the same size tires that came on the truck when it was stock? an increase in tire rolling circumference will cause your speedo to be off like you describe. ==Respond== I changed the speed sensor because only the speedometer was broken, the tach and other gauges including the odometer worked great. When that didnt work, I changed out the speedometer cluster, now the needle moves, however its in accurate. I will look into the tire size, I bought the truck last month, so I dont know if the tires have been changed. Is it possible all I need is to ge the computer re programmed? ==Re-Question== The tire size is the stock size, I am thinking either it's the computer, which I have no idea how to diagnose it, or it could be the replaced speedometer cluster is faulty, no good. ANy comments or help would be appreciated.
check if it has a speedometer cable if not the speed sensor needs to be replaced
Right around 107 MPH (Remember that your speedometer will read different)
I've replaced the speedometer Cable on my 87 Supra with manual Tranny and they're in two pieces the short piece which around 14" is underneath beside the transmission and could be replaced individually.
Contact GM. They have issued free extended warranty on speedometers. I had mine replaced for free at Chevy dealer. It would stick at around 70mph, even when stpped.
With stock gearing it is around 131 mph according to the speedometer. There is a 3-7% variance in the speedometer.
Answerreplace the speedometer cable. the problem will get worse, before it brakes. there is no cure but replacement My 1989 Ford had a gear on the transmission that had to be replaced, cable was okay. Easier than replacing cable if it is like a Ford.
Either the wire from the VSS to the speedometer is bad or your speedometer is bad. A common problem with this vintage of Maximas is for the speedometer head unit to go bad. The VSS sends the signal to the speedometer and the speedometer relays it to the computer - therefore, if the speedometer is bad, you would get a P0500 code. On my car, the speedometer displayed the correct speed but replacing it fixed the CEL. The speedometer costs around $200 (not including labor) and you will have to drop another $25 to get it set to the correct mileage. The replacement can be done by a competent home mechanic in 2 hours. Expect to spend several hundred dollars on labor at the dealer.
you need to replace dash illumination bulbs only problem the speedometer cluster has to be removed
Insulate the speedometer cluster, there's too much electrical "noise" surrounding it. That causes the signals to get confused; happens on all fords and AMCs that I know over time.

Speedometer quit working, car wont shiftI drove a 1993 Ford Taurus. It had transmission controlled shifting. In my situation, there was a very small $5.00 piece(plastic, of course) inside the tranny that controlled the shifting which needed to be replaced. I actually had it replaced at the dealer and cost me around $160.00. Sorry I couldn't help more but hope this gives you a direction, William
