Under Indiana law, IC 31-35-1-12 (2)(a) once parental rights are terminated, all obligations of support are terminated at that time as well. You will ONLY have your rights terminated, however, where a court determinest that it is in the best interests of the child. You will however be required to pay the child support that was ordered before the termination. It only stops after parental rights are terminated, but does not mean you do not owe the back support.

Did you give up parental rights thru the legal system? Because there is a difference between rights and responsibilities. If the other parent wants nothing to do with you and wants you to have nothing to do with the child - if you have done so legallay you probably won't have to pay child support. (but check with your county or state to be clear on your responsibilities.) If this was just something you privately agreed to with the child's mother - she can go to court at any time and demand support. If you are not listed as the father on the birth certificate - she can still do it by DNA proof that you are the father.

The question you have to asked yourself is why would you be part of bringing a new life into this world if you did not want the responsibility for it. It's not just the woman who is responsible for Birth Control. YOU could have taken measures as well so you are equally obligated to care for the life you created. What a sad thing it is that this child will grow up not knowing his real father. Even if you are not worth knowing - that child will suffer for it.

If you just want to be a sperm donor - go to a sperm bank. If you truly do not want to have children - get yourself fixed. Be a MAN.

That seems highly unlikely. In general, parental rights are terminated either preparatory to an adoption, or after a trial in which it is determined that the parent is unfit. In any case, termination of parental rights does not, in itself, terminate child support.

If you give away parental rights do you have to pay child support?

Yes, you are STILL the person responsible for bringing the child into the world. You need to support them. The laws vary from state to state on parental rights and child support,So signing away your parental rights may not relieve you from paying child support.. However if one parent wants the other parent to sign away their parental rights, they can come to a legal aggreement that if the parent signs away their rights then the other parent will cancel any current child support and will not seek support for that child in the future, this of course must be done through the courts...
